What is an original artwork?                                                                                                               An original artwork is an entirely unique, handmade artwork created by an artist. It stands as a one-of-a-kind work. Photographic prints can be made of individual artworks and sold in editions.

What is a limited edition print?                                                                                                             A limited edition print is a controlled reproduction of an original artwork. It is usually one of a set (or “edition size”) of identical prints. The size of the edition can vary, however limits editions to between of 15-25 a design. By working with small edition sizes, she ensures the value and rarity of each print. You can find the edition number of your limited edition print on by the signature.  

What is a textile?                                                                                                                                A textile is made of fibre materials, such as wool, cotton, linen, or silk among others. These materials are bound together, through the process of weaving, to create cloth or fabric. Textile artists use cloth or fabric as a surface to work upon. Lisa uses a lot of woven linen and silk organza in her work and sometimes uses a combination of cloths or cloth and paper in layers to create the final artwork. Lisa’s work frequently uses freehand machine embroidery (a bit like drawing with a sewing machine) and is printed by hand using silk screens or printing plates. Sometimes Lisa combines stitched pieces with digital printmaking. All pieces need specialist cleaning – they can’t be machine washed – depending on the processes used.  

How Long does it take you to create an artwork?                                                                                             A large heavily stitched piece like ‘Quota’ can take several months to make, but others like the Hansel and Gretel series took between 4 – 6 weeks to make. In plain sight took me just a week – but I was mostly using materials I already had to hand.                                                                                                                                                          

What Kind of projects would Lisa Earley collaborate on?                                                                               Lisa has led several public engagement activities such as workshops and talks to small groups of people who may have come to visit events or exhibitions, or in educational establishments. She is a qualified teacher and has delivered workshops in a variety of settings. How can I commission an artwork?                                                                                                     The first step is to contact Lisa sale by emailing lisaearley@btinternet.com or messaging her via her Instagram to discuss what you have in mind. This will usually be followed up by a site visit and an estimate will be given that reflects the time it would take to produce each work. Printmaking is much quicker than a stitched piece for example.

Do you have a shop?                                                                                                                       Currently Lisa only works via commissions or exhibition sales, but there are plans to open an online shop in the future – possibly by the end of 2022.
